Health content creators gain Individual PIF TICK

Four health content creators have become the first people to gain the Individual PIF TICK.

The four new Trusted Information Creators are:

They achieved their Individual PIF TICK after taking part in a pilot. The scheme will fully launch on 20 March 2024.

What is the Individual PIF TICK?

Individual PIF TICK members have to show they meet 10 key steps.

This includes showing they produce accessible and evidence-based health information.

Pharmacist Virginia said: “The number of followers or subscribers someone has does not always reflect the quality of their information. The PIF TICK makes it much easier to spot quality information online.”

“It’s also so helpful for me to look back at my process and see what’s worked so I can repeat that process in future.”

Why do we need the Individual PIF TICK?

The way people find and use health information has changed. The Individual PIF TICK builds on the success of the original PIF TICK for organisations like charities to help you find even more trusted information.

PIF TICK manager Dan Will said: “People access health information in lots of ways. We need to make sure that, no matter how people get their information, they can easily see what is trusted and what is not.”

Why do health content creators want an Individual PIF TICK?

Health content creators want an Individual PIF TICK so they can be part of the solution to health misinformation.

The PIF TICK quality mark shows people can trust their information.

Doctor Azmain said: “There’s just so much misinformation out there. I think this scheme really encompasses the fact we’re coming together as a community of health creators and championing high standards for the content we make.”

The PIF TICK can also help to relieve pressure on NHS staff.

Dr Sophie GP said: “You know the patient’s got the right information to go forward and for good shared decision-making. I want the patients to be empowered to have better engagement but also it is absolutely about the wellbeing of staff.

“As a frontline GP myself I know there are absolutely crazy pressures. I really feel like this is a great solution that I want more GPs to find out about and get on board with.”
